Rental Car Help
Hi all,
Can anyone give me some advice about renting a car to drive from Nice to meet up with my family in Avignon? I tried to look up TGV info, but my flight arrives in the morning (Nice), and the earliest train I could find that I'd be able to catch is at 1:30pm arriving Avignon at 4:30pm...I don't want to have to wait that long as my trip is more of a long weekend, and I thought maybe a rental car would be faster as the TGV says it takes 3 hours anyway.
I need to find the cheapest rental car, automatic trans, and that I can drop off in Avignon. Also need to know about how long a drive it is?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated...I used to live in Avignon, and I used to train just about everywhere, but has been about 10 years since I've been back, and I have a limited amount of time (only about 3-4 days).
Thanks in advance!

According to the timetables at www.bahn.de, there are direct TGVs from Nice Ville to Avignon TGV departing at 09:31 and 10:31. Departing at 11:31 requires making a connection in Aix.
For one person, I doubt if renting a car would be cost-effective. Besides, the minimum rental period might be three days.

Thank you both. The 11:30 train would be fine except that you are required to change trains and it takes 4hrs to get to Avignon. THis is my biggest problem. I have limited time (I'm only in France for 4 days including the day traveling to Avignon, flying out on the fifth). So, I just thought that renting a car would allow more flexibility to see other places along the way to Avignon and to get there when I want to. The train is also roughly $75? and car rental was $107...I realize that doesn't include gas or tolls, but I'm only going one direction...my family has a car in Avignon.
Any other suggestions out there? Any suggestions for a quick but pretty drive from Nice to Avignon?
