You all need to pack in a carry on suitcase, even if you are checking them. Train travel is very difficult if each person cannot carry on their bags, pocketbooks etc, etc. The trains do not help with the luggage at all. I think you know you need to cut down on your trip, so you need to chose what you most want to see and make reservations for that. Enjoy your vacation but don't assume you can go as quickly as you planned. You said it best--Insane I know.

May 3rd is dead day to recover from flt 9/10hrs T/A flt. I would go to Florence spend 2 days there then to Venice there is nothing is Pisa apart from the tower. Naples is South of Rome and Florence & Venice are North don't ruin a good holiday by trying to do too much also travel by train. From Florence you can go to Sienna which is worth a visit by bus. Then off to Venice have a great holiday.

The train seems the best idea.
And I have had many warnings about trying to fit to much in one day and in certain cases i even put things on a sideburner so as to fit thing s in. But when i got to these places i had so much spare time after id visited everything that when i thought about the things id put on the sideburner, i chose not to do them and just laze about in cafes and shopping instead. So i would advise you to have a list of must do's and a list of might not do's, then you can do all things you simply have to, you can either do the rest or (in your case as your heading one way and may pass some sights to complete your must do's) budget your time when your journeys halfway through, and see if you can do extra stuff.
