Relaxing area with beautiful scenery around Munich for post-op recovery?
My mother is undergoing surgery in Munich next week and I was originally planning for us to just remain in Munich for a few days after surgery before heading back home, then I had this idea about taking advantage of this beautiful part of Europe for her recovery.
So I'm looking for a lovely picturesque area for her to stay and recover for a few days following her surgery outside the city. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Ettal looks incredible! The Garmisch-Partenkirchen region looks really nice but most towns don't have train stations so we would have to stay in the main town of the same name. And if we take the train we could avoid any potential traffic issues anyway. I'm guessing most skiers would skip Gramisch and head for ski towns located higher up the mountain at this time of year.
BTW I remember seeing several picturesque towns on the way to Salzburg, are you guys familiar with that region? I dont know why the Austria tag was removed from this post, as Munich is located very close to the Austrian border and my inquiry is about the entire area surrounding munich.

Hi,
How about Mittenwald? It's about 20 minutes south of G-P and it's just perfect. The "quintessential Bavarian village" surrounded by Alps. The train station is a level 5 to maybe 10 min. walk to the charming pedestrian zone.

Hi chillout,
I also recommend Mittenwald -- a beautiful village nestled right under the Alps. The village itself is charming, and there is access to a many walking trails and a two cable cars. You can see it at
www.mittenwald.de
Not sure what you mean when you say that most towns don't have train stations . . .? The few that do not are served by bus from the DB. Also, folks do settle in Garmisch-Partenkirchen to ski -- you can access the Garmisch Classic ski area as well as the Zugspitze ski area directly from Garmisch.
Anyway, I hope you find just the right spot!
