regensburg or burghausen germany
I will be traveling to Munich in June and will be making several day trips and I have to choose between Regensburg and Burghausen. Can someone please make recommendations on what both cities have to offer. Thanks..

I cannot compare the two, as I haven't been to Burghausen. I've visited Regensburg twice in the winter, and people there (we have some distant relatives that we met for dinner) couldn't understand why we didn't come in the summer when it is really beautiful. It was lovely in the winter to us! In the warm weather, I think there are a lot of outdoor cafe's, etc.
The city is very old and has some traces of the Roman wall. Many of the medieval towers are still standing, as well as the Dom, which is spectacular. If you can catch a church service there when the boy choir is singing, it is a fabulous experience. This is the oldest boy choir anywhere (I think) - something like 800 years.
The bridge over the Danube is the oldest stone bridge in Europe. There are other old churches and other buildings, and the streets in the old town retain their medieval layout. The town is compact enough to walk comfortably, and has some pedestrian areas. We've enjoyed some good food and poking around the little shops.

Add our vote to Regensburg. In addition to the Gothic Dom St. Peter, the Roman Porta Praetoria, and the Steinerne Bridge, I would add the city museum. My wife votes for the Thurn and Taxis Schloss near the train station. We both would add that the pedestrian zone is very walkable and inviting.
