What's your price range? How close to the beach do you want to be?

We can spend up to 200 a night. We would like a swimming pool.

I haven't stayed in any of them, but these hotels listed in my guidebooks match what you're looking for:

Hotel Windsor***, www.hotelwindsornice.com

Hotel Gounod***, www.gounod-nice.com. It doesn't have its own pool, but guests have free use of the pool and other facilities at the adjacent Hotel Splendid.

Hotel Splendid****, www.splendid-nice.com

Le Meridien Nice****, www.lemeridien-nice.com

Le Meridien would be over the poster's price range.

kittpom,

Try orbitz.com and look for hotels with pools (in the Specify Amenities section). I found quite a few.

The reason I listed Le Meridien is that I found rooms starting at E205, just barely over Kittpom's price range.

Pretty good--where?

I think we need to know when kittpom is planning to be in Nice, as that makes a difference.

Also...200 Euros or what?

I've stayed at Palais de la Mediterranee, but with a promotion last summer, it started around 300E. Also the pool area is very small!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Gounoud. The roof top pool is available at the Splendid which is just next door.

Rooms are newly decorated, though on the small side. The staff was very friendly, and the breakfast buffet was exceptionally good.

Very good location. Halfway between train station and the promenade and just up from the Hotel Negresso.

Underhill - I went to the hotel's Web site and plugged in an arbitrary date in September to get that price (in euros). Most rooms were listed at a much higher price.

Now I'm worried I have heard from alot of people that the Le Meridien Nice is not a nice hotel at all for the price. Does anyone know anymore about this hotel.Or can reccommend a hotel where they have stayed and would be good for my honeymoon in Nice.

The Le Meridien is fine. Halls and rooms are decorated in bright yellow and blue, and bathrooms in rooms that overlook the Promenade des Anglais are very large--done in marble.

You have to pay an extra fee to use the pool, but the rooftop view is splendid. Note that you have to climb some stairs from the elevator landing.

The front-desk staff aren't especially cordial, but you don't need to see much of them.

This is from another traveler
Please, whatever you do, do NOT stay at the Le Meridian. It is about one step up from a Motel 6. Do not let the internet photos fool you. We checked in at about 11 pm one night on a holiday weekend. The low ceilinged lobby was filled with smoke and all sorts of snarky type from the casino on the first level. The hallways were filled with BREAKFAST trays at 11 pm, with flies all over. I slept in my clothes that night because I didn't want to touch any of the bedding. The next morning we checked out and wheeled ourselves over to the Negresco, for the same price. That hotel is gorgeous and perfect for a honeymoon. You will adore it.

Kittpom: Are you talking Euros or Dollars? And *when* are you going to be there -- that makes a big difference re: price.

Hotel Gounod is a good value. Bill and I stayed there probably a dozen times or more. If you email them directly, you may be able to negotiate free parking, or breakfast included.

Another great Nice hotel is the Westminster, which is down the street from the Gounod/Splendid, and once again, if you do your homework, you can get a great rate. We stayed there last November and got a room which they "did not want to have guests stay in" and it was one of the roomiest rooms I've stayed in France.

Hope this helps.

Kittpom,

We LOVED our room at Le Meridien Nice. Our room was nicely decorted and large. It was meticulously clean, service was excellent, the location was perfect, and the view was amazing. The only horrible thing is the facade--UGLY!! with an awful casino and McDonald's on the first floor. I can't imagine that poster above and I stayed in the same hotel.

We were there about 3 weeks ago. See my trip report for more details.
