Reasonable Hotels Impossible in Zagreb?
I am looking for some place to stay in Zagreb next summer that is fairly inexpensive but I am having trouble. Ideally, the cost would be between $60 and $80 USD. I am finding that there isn't much choice in that range. Can anyone help?

Wow - the place I was going to suggest, www.hotel-central.hr, seems to have DOUBLED its prices since 2004. Don't know whether that's the drop in the dollar or because they've renovated (seemed to be in good enough shape to me when I was there). Maybe a combination.

I looked at that one. It seems like everything that is well-located is between $125 and $400 per night. Who would have thought Zagreb, Croatia, would be pricier than Paris?
I have found a place called the Villa Marija for 50 Euro per night for two with a private bath but I'm not sure how convenient it is to transportation.

I thought the tram system seemed pretty good. Maybe you can figure it out from this: www.zet.hr/pdf/tmreza.pdf

We had a nice little apartment in Zagreb. The owner of the apartment, an opera singer, split his into two. We had a private entrance. It was newly done and nice. We also went to the opera and saw him!
There's a few decent restaurants near as well as a nice grocery store.
We walked from the apartment to the city centre, too, but it was near the trams.
The fellow that we booked with also picked us up at the airport for a low fee.
It was great.
email me if you'd like the info.
Have a great trip!

We stayed in Hotel Central just three weeks ago. I believe that we paid $140 USD for our room, inc. breakfast. It is across from the train station. It was a very convenient hotel--the trams did run outside of it, but that did not bother us. We were on the 4th floor. The Breakfast was very good. We were joining a tour at the Plaza Esplanade, and just walked to it across a square.
We walked to the City Centre twice and found a place for Pizza near it on our first night, that was mentioned on this forum, but the name escapes me now. Good pizza. Ciao. mhm
