Really Stupid Question--- Sorry!

Hello all,

I know this question is going to make me look stupid, and I apologize. But I'd still love an answer

I am in the middle of booking hostels in Italy for a friend and I. When they give the prices for a double room, is that the price for the room, or for each person?

Thanks for your patience!

It depends on what it actually says. €40 double (rate for the room) -- or -- €40 per person double occupancy (rate per person).

Often hostels charge per room for private double rooms, and per person for dorm-type rooms.

If it's Hostelworld, they typically give the price per person. Can you provide a link to the site and the hostel you are looking at?

Not a stupid question at all. Because it varies from place to place and website to website. On my last trip, most rooms were per room but the rates for a couple of the places I stayed were quoted per person. It should be noted somewhere, maybe you'll have to search for it. But if you aren't sure, make sure you clarify before booking.

This was the place I was looking at. I decided it was probably per person for a double, and I sent my booking request in, but a box popped up in Italian so I have no idea if it went through? Ah well.

But for future reference, if it was actually for the room and not per person, the prices would probably have much greater difference between them, yes?

Yes, as you can see, the price is per person, and it says below the listed prices that the price is per person, although the page could be a little clearer.

In general, a given hostel will charge less for 1 bed in a 10-person room than it will for 1 bed in a 2-person room.
