?? re Semmering Pass Railway, Austria

Has anyone taken the train between Vienna and Graz? The Semmering Pass Railway (UNESCO)seems to be part of one possible route from Vienna to Ljubljana. It's supposed to be a beautiful ride with multiple bridges, tunnels, and viaducts.

A railway as a World Heritage Site is rather unusual, I think. It's quite a short ride. Are you planning to spend any time in Graz, or stop long enough to hike in Semmering?

I did a day trip to Semmering in March 06 and a day trip to Graz passing through Semmering in March 07. What a difference a year made! Last year, Semmering was completely covered in snow, I had to wear my boots and ski jacket. This year, there was almost no snow at all, it was so balmy and sunny in Graz I didn't need a coat.
Graz was very handsome, they did a lot of restoration work throughout the city a few years ago when it was the European Capital of Culture. We got a day pass for the mass transit system, went all around town and had lunch at a stylish Styrian winebar/restaurant www.lovin.at

Schöckel- 1,500 metres is nice for hiking and not too far from Graz.

There is a funicular there if you are too lazy to walk up

Also, you might like to go to Piber - where the Spanish Riding school stud is. Its really nice to walk around.
