Ravello as a Destination

I have never been to Ravello, but hear that it is magnificent. I plan to spend 2 weeks in Italy next summer with family members (including 2 children) and found a reasonably priced villa with a pool that is a 5-10 minute drive from Ravello. The villas in Positano (where I have spent a decent amount of time) are more expensive. Is Ravello very inconvenient for day-trips to Positano, Amalfi or even Capri? What about Ravello as a place for dinner or evening gelato? How far is the nearest beach? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

Ravello is about a 20 minute ride by bus up from Amalfi. It is cooler than down on the coast, quiet, beautiful and peaceful. Very laid back and relaxing. As such it is not very convenient for day trips to Capri, Positano, or Sorrento. We had a nice stay at the Villa Maria Hotel. Meals on the outdoor patio at this hotel are divine, especially the desserts.

If your villa is 5-10 mins from Ravello it might be near the sea, nearer Amalfi or it might be in the middle of nowhere better check out the location before you book.

I live 5 minutes from Ravello, and there are numerous Holiday Villas that can only be reached by climbing numberous steps. Ravello is just as convenient for day trips you just have to add the 20 minute bus journey into you plans.

Local buses only run about once an hour(at least in the summer) so figure that into your plans.
