Rains and mountains.

Hi
Earlier threads helped us plan our trips. thanks for that.

Now that we are checking the weather for our final itinery... We have more questions. Kindly let us know...
To go to mount titilis, pilatus and Rigi, how would we be placed if there are showers the previous night or morning ? With light showers can we still do the trip?
We plan to take the golden route trip for pilatus.

Thanks in advance
Nikhila

Only do the trips if the skies are clear - views are the key to ascending each summit. for lots of info on these excursion check www.budgeteuropetravel.com (Switzerland chapter); www.ricksteves.com and www.swisstravelsystem.com.

Forget the Golden Pass which you would be on for only a few minutes to Alpnachstad where the thrilling mountain railway ascends Pilatus - rather take a boat to Alpnachstad and then after Pilatus boat from there to Vitznau for the mountain train to Rigi (all of these conveyances fully covered now I believe with a Swiss Pass).

If not a clear day neither would be optimal because you go for the vistas for miles around not an Alpine Wonderland - for that head to Engleberg and Mt Titlis and take the unique revolving cable cars to near the icy summit - much more the awesome high Alps than either Pilatus and especially Rigi.

It depends.
There can be rain or drizzle from low-hanging clouds in the lower elevations. While you have sunshine and great vistas from the peaks, with the clouds below you.
Often you have the best views shortly after a rain system has passed through and the air is clear of haze or dust. A longer period of sunny and hot days will typically lead to haze building up, and limited views from the peaks from mid-day on.
It's a good idea to inquiry locally at your hotels once you got there if it's worth to go up the mountains nearby.
