Ques. about charges for checked bag to Paris
I'm assuming that if I have to fly American from Kansas City to Chicago to Paris, I will have to pay for one checked bag on the KC-Chicago leg and again on the return flight. There is no charge with American on international flights to Europe. Am I correct or would my flight booked on American all the way from KC to Paris be considered an international flight with no charge for 1 checked bag, even though connecting through Chicago? Probably a dumb question. Thanks.

Have you read the AA website? It says, after domestic, "All other itineraries- Contact Reservations for fees or seasonal restrictions." So call them.
Your ticket MCI-CDG is not a domestic ticket, never mind the domestic leg to the international hub ORD. But call AA. It costs nothing except a bit of on-hold-time -it only costs a fee to talk to an agent if you have the agent make the booking for you.
