I stayed on Cheyne Row for a few months, which is quite close to there. The area was fine (although SW7 is better
. It about a 20 minute bus ride to Sloane Square along the King's Road. if you walk out onto Cheyne walk there is a bus that takes about 12 minutes to Victoria.

annhig. My thoughts exactly. Hell, we barely sleep on vacation anyway. We are all looking forward to this trip a lot. I have figured out our day in Bath, so next up is our six days in the Cotswolds. I am using your list of places to chart out a plan of attack. I'll probably start a new thread with Cotswolds questions soon. Thanks.

Just to put our two pence worth on this thread.
We absolutely loved loved loved Hampton Court Palace--the grounds are stunning, the interior very nice and not crowded like we found at Versailles in Paris. Plus we were there when they did live kitchen demonstrations that my son really enjoyed. They were preparing real meat with real spices and let my son be the first to turn the meat on the spigot by the fire after they prepared it. They also dressed up in period costume and if you wanted to you can join in on live skits they were doing throughout the day.
Windsor we were not as impressed.
Cabinet War Rooms--we spent about 2 hours there and also really enjoyed. Don't miss it or the Imperial War Museum which is quite good.
Enjoy your trip. Looking forward to your trip report.

I'm sure I'll steal that line for the trip report
Looks like we will go to Hampton Court and skip Windsor since we will have already had the tour of Buckingham Palace. I think only a small part of Imperial War Museum will be open when we are there. Too bad, because it looks interesting. Thanks.

If you were interested in the Imperial War Museum you might consider substituting their Duxford site:
http://www.iwm.org.uk/visits/iwm-duxford
You could combine it with a visit to Cambridge.

We (and England) survived our journey. Thanks to everyone who helped us prepare.
Lots of interesting sites visited in London and in the English countryside, but we also witnessed perhaps the most boring spectacle we have ever seen in our numerous travels around the globe...you will have to wait until the trip report to find out what it was. We also had a nice dinner with a Fodorite in Tetbury. Trip report some time in the hopefully not-too-distant future. Sadly, right now, work beckons.
