Purchasing Torino Olympic Tickets from the U.S

I am serious about going to the 2006 Olympics in Torino, and the tickets go on sale this Thursday. The only problem is no one living outside the E.U. can purchase tickets from www.torino2006.org/tickets; the official website. It tells non-E.U. residents to check with their Olympic Commitee. The U.S. olympic commitee website is no help, and I plan to purchase tickets for around 10 people. I am desperatley in need of help, and I do not want to wait until the end and wind-up spending too much money for a small event that in the beginning cost 20 euros.

I'd bet the US Olympic committee web site has a phone number or email address where you can send your inquiry to a person on their staff and get an official answer. They will probably have a certain number of tickets to sell and will put them on sale at some point in time. They should be able to give you all the details if you call them, though.

Just bought tickets to the games and opening ceremony at cosport.com. It took me a long time almost 30 minutes to pick out which events because they have a restriction on the tickets--you'll see when you get to the site. Good Luck.

Thank you so much. I am in the process of purchasing my tickets. Without you telling me about this site, I don't know how I would have made it to Torino. You have made my day.

-Thanks
MATT

Has anyone been looking at hotels yet?

It is a shame that those of us living in the US are excluded from purchasing tickets directly from the Torino games website and are forced to pay higher prices and have less flexibility in purchasing tickets than most of the rest of the people in the world.

If anyone discovers any travel deals, accomodations, etc. it would be very helpful to share that information. Making travel arrangements and accomodations reservations for Salt Lake City was difficult at best and that was in the USA. Making them in or around Torino will be very difficult indeed I think. In addition, for any reservations you need to make through Cosport be prepared to pay EXHORBITANT prices!

I know what you mean. I received an email stating that 5 and 1/2 million Euros worth of tickets were sold. I'm also waiting until Jan 30th, 2005 to see if I won the lottery and will get the Olympic tickets I requested through Cosport.

My son studied in Torino last year for his overseas university studies and I would highly recommend the Hotel Genio across from the train station where we stayed when we visited him. Its very centrally located-you can travel with various forms of transportation all over town and to other parts of Italy,France and Switzerland. The hotel staff is wonderful and our room was very beautifully furnished-double paned windows, sitting area, armoire, mini bar, etc. It is part of the Best Western chain although it is a former smaller palace/residence of someone (whose name escapes me)of Italian history
yesteryear that has been redone. The area had alot of restaurants nearby and the high end shopping area was just two streets over.We flew into Milan and then took the train over to Turin. Air France took us back from Turin to Paris to the states to get home.If anyone has any other questions about Turin-feel free to ask.We loved our stay there!

Dutyfree,
Normally train stations means a shady area. You felt that the area was fine?

Thanks,

I know what you mean about train station areas but if you are thinking of Termini in Rome-this is not like this. My son had an apartment in the northwest area of town and he thought that the area of the Hotel Genio was great as it was more centrally located to everything(you could take buses, taxis and the train anywhere without having to do changes which was nice). When we were there they were building the main transfer public transportation huMetro type) which will be the gateway to the Olympic venues in the Alps, etc.Quite a few of the big name hotels like Jolly, etc. are around that area. As I said before there are several "areas" but this area was one/two blocks away from the "yaya" shopping-kinda their equilvalent of the Spanish Steps shopping. If you book at the Genio, see if you can get a corner room as they were bigger. Torino is not like Rome -it has beautiful areas and working class areas, lots of different history and is more of a normal big city without all the tourists which I am sure will change a great deal with the Olympics. When I can get through getting my daughter off to Ecuador this week, I will go back in my notes and offer some other places to stay and see.I wish I could go back and see the Olympics there.
