Provence/Riviera in November: Mistral?

We're thinking to finally rent a place for a week and stay put. Area around St. Paul de Vence appeals as does Gordes area. But if we go in mid-November, will we be blown to bits by the Mistral? What is "peak" mistral season anyway?

I'm not sure if there is a season. There are mistral winds all through summer, and they bring some welcome relief, but unfortunately also fan the flames of forest fires. Mid November the weather could still be lovely, or it could rain all the time. Impossible to say.

The frequency of the mistral is variable. It occurs most often in February, March and April as well as July And August when it is less strong and a danger because of forest fires.
I was having lunch in the Place Crillon in Avignon in August one year when it struck.

The mistrala can hit any time of year. I was in Provence in November 2001 and the mistral was raging. Just cut off all your hair and enjoy yourself.

Or if you're having a late afternoon drink at Place de l'Horloge in Avignon, you can lose your FAVORITE sunglasses if you don't remember to "tie them down"!! ;-)

Best wishes, Dave

Thanks all. Sounds like an unpredictable, grin and bear it phenomenon. Love the suggestion to just cut your hair.
