DH & I are considering Provence in September & he would love to stay in or near a chateau if we can do it without breaking the bank. These are two we are considering -- anyone have any experience with either? Thanks in advance.

We've walked around the Ch de Berne - checking it out for a dinner possibility. Didn't impress us that much.
I don't know what your itinerary is, but if you plan to stay in one place & do day trips to the typical Provence sites - Pont du Gard, Luberon, Vaison, Arles, Avignon, Les Baux, Rhone wineries, St Remy, etc - then Lorgues is not a good location at all. We've spent quite a bit of time in the Cote d'Azur & Provence areas, and we've stayed within 10 mins of Lorgues for a total of 4 weeks. That region is quite nice, but you really can't do day trips to the sites I mentioned.
The Vaucluse is pretty large - where is the Ch Massillan?
