Looks like a great plan. My favorite hotel in Italy is LaSaracina. http://www.lasaracina.it/menu_eng.htm Much better than the website looks.
Del Capitano is also recommended very often

Also between Positano and Amalfi is the small town Praiano. There is a very reasonable hotel with an amazing view Le Sirene http://www.lesirene.com/tarifs.htm.

BowenLinda,

we haven't decided a base yet, since we actually agreed on a "concept" just last night. My husband and I are wanting to purchase an apt. in a hilltown within a few years in conjunction to opening an Italian import storefront here. The trip is to try to get a feel for a few of the cities I mentioned to see if they are places where we could live for a few months at a time, but draw enough tourists to be able to rent it out when we're not there. We're still looking and researching.

Thanks. Now we're thinking of going from September 30 - October 16 (instead of our original dates of Sep. 23 - Oct. 9). Does anyone think this will make a difference or be a problem with respect to the weather?

Betsy, the Malvarina site was lovely. Thanks for the tip.

Sandi, what interesting plans you've got! Good luck with them and please post your itinerary when it's firmed up.

Cheers,
Linda

jaydreb5, weather will be generally the same. The temps should be mild with always a possibility of rain.

Hi Jay,

>4 nights Positano (we agree Sorrento would probably be a more convenient place but my wife has been there before and would like to stay somewhere new)<

We very much enjoyed our stay at the hotel Le Sirene in Praiano - 6km E of Positano.

See my trip report for more details.
