Private Tour Guide Istanbul: Recommend?

We are taking our two kids on an educational trip to Istanbul in early October and am looking for a reputable tour guide to show us around the city. Any recommendations?

Thanks

James

Mr. burak sansal helped us last June when we had guests from detroit. Our guests were very pleased with him. He is also a DE on Trip Advisor.

Check him at www.allaboutturkey.com

The standards of guides are generally very high in Turkey because the qualifying exams and rules are very rigid and tough.

Assuming that your kids are somewhere between 7-16,and at leasy one of them is a boy, in addition to the historic sites and the Bosphorus, the archeological museum and the cisterns, i strongly recommend the "Rahmi Koc Museum" which is a highlight for all boys upto age 99.

You can combine this with a ferry ride on the Golden horn, leaving from Eminonu, (get off at Sutluce) and a visit to Miniaturk not too far from Rahmi Koc Museum, (short cab ride) on a day when you will not need a guide.
Rahmi Koc Museum also has a very good restaurant, next to the buildings that house trains, trams and the one that has boats and close to the submarine and the tank, called "Halat" .
There is also a good parisienne cafe at the entrance to the main building called 'Cafe Levant'.

We made our arrangements through Credo Tours in Istanbul. They arranged private guides for our family throughout our trip. The Istanbul guide, I only recall his first name:Reza-was very good. He was younger than all our other guides and our boys 13 and 16 at the time, really connected with him.

We (4 of us) had our trip to Istanbul and Cappadocia organised by "Euphrates Tours". All aspects of the organisation were first clas,at a reasonable price. They designes the tour especially for us. I would be very happy to recommend them. Filiz was our contact - good English!!!!!

We left Istanbul two days ago. Our guide, Togay Kovuk, was excellent. He lived for three months in the UK and had three years of college in the US, so his English was excellent. You can reach him through www.proper travel.com.
