PrIvate or small tours in San Sebastian
We are headed for Spain shortly. Can anyone recommend a good tour company for San Sebastian? We would like to go on a pintos tour and also wine tasting in the Rioja region.

San Sebastián Food, in the old town, offers pintxos tours. Have not been on one myself, I just stumble in and out of the bars on my own. But, I'm sure I might be missing some gems and good background info.

You can contact Tenedor Tours ([email protected]) regarding a pintxos tour in SS, Gabriella is the best!
You can also check out San Sebastian Essential (www.sansebastianessential.com/es/). This is a new service which came about because of their association with chef Andoni Luis Aduriz of Mugaritz, one of the best chefs in the world.
Touring the Rioja from Donostia can be a very long day, about 4 hours driving roundtrip, depending on where you want to go in the Rioja, but some people insist on doing it.
You can also do wine tasting in Navarra, which offers some excellent wines, most of a par with the best in the Rioja. The closest bodegas open for tours are only a little over an hours drive from San Sebastian.

You could of course do a guided tour, but you can't do much wrong here, any place serving less than great food is out of business in two weeks. The thing is to go from bar to bar and have a pintxo and a glass at each place, and just go with the flow or where the evening (or lunch hours) take you. Some days in San Sebastián should nevertheless include Goiz-Argi, Zeruko, Txepetxa, La Cepa, Ganbara, Astelehena and Cuchara de San Telmo in the Parte vieja and Bodega Donostiarra, Garbola and Bar Bergara across the city river Urumea in the Gros district (5-10 mins walk from the Parte vieja).
