Price too high Greece and Spain???
I did post a message earlier about travel agents and if they had any fees. Someone asked me what they were charging. We are going to Athens, the island of Santorini, and Barcelona. We are staying in very nice hotels. The total trip package is 9,790. Is this seriously ridiculous or could we do this on our own?? It is in August also, I know a high season.

How long is your trip?
Say your hotels cost 2000 Euros for 10 nights, which should be enough to get you a very nice hotel.
Say your flights to Europe cost $1200 USD each.
Say that inter-country/inter-island transport costs $400 USD each.
That adds up to less than $6000 total. But I don't know how many nights you have. Are there any other features of this tour?

You might like to post the names of the hotels you have been offered.
I was looking at a tour booklet tonight when I had a few idle moments outside a travel agent office. I noted the hotels the tour was using, and I looked up a couple here at home. Just as I expected, they are far outside the standard tourist area. If you want to book these hotels for nights on your own, the "special" tour rate is worse than any half-determined bargain hunter could find in the city.

Do some comparison shopping. Contact Fantasy Travel in Athens for a quote. They have a great reputation for reliability, follow-up and communication.

Thank you everyone. We are going to be there for 12 nights: Santorini, Athens, and Barcelona. Our hotels look more than 2000 dollars. We are also having tours. I am just worried about the price. Thanks.
Hotels: Astir Palace-Athens
Sun Rock Apartments-Santorini
Avenida-Barcelona
Plus renting a car for 3 days in Barcelona.

I took a look at the Avenida. It's possible to book it for 140 Euros per night in August, at least for the dates I checked. Spanish hotels in major cities are often very cheap in August. It looks like a very nice place.
I'm not sure which Astir, but this is an expensive hotel for sure. I couldn't find a firm rate for the Sun Rocks. Both look great.
You could ask your travel agent how much the hotel portion costs for each place.
You could check car rental rates through AutoEurope.com (this seems to be the most recommended company).
