Have just saved "MorganB's guide to booking SNCF French train tickets" hoping it will help when I can ultimately buy our tickets. It does seem harder than it should!
I was able to find the same fare as Tim, on 20 Nov but it seems to be too early to book for late December. I will keep checking but if anyone finds a way to book now for late Dec, I'd love to hear. I expect any cheap fares will go very quickly and I'd love to get them!
Sorry if I've caused confusion over fares. I've looked at so many sites and versions of the same site that I'm confused as well.
Thanks
Kay

Kay,
While booking on the iDTGV can be done four or more months in advance, you're limited to three months in advance for regular TGVs and other trains. Yes, any PREM'S for dates close to Christmas are bound to sell out fast. I suggest that you start trying to book on 21 September, keeping in mind that it will be 22 September in France six to nine hours ahead of you, depending upon what time zone you're in.

The iDTGV is a TGV on which you can choose between sitting in a quiet carriage or one equipped with games, etc. and is therefore more noisy. Fares start at €19 and can be booked up to six months in advance. Currently iDTGVs run on 16 routes, but Lille-Nice is not one of them.
