Prague: Overnight Parking

I'm planning to drive to Prague from Munich in early April and stay in the Mala Strana area for three days. Does anyone know of a secure place to park? I will probably not need the car for the entire time. I heard that there are a lot of car thefts so I'm interested in something secure. Thanks, in advance!

have you checked with your hotel? When I was there, in '99, the hotel allowed people to pull their cars into the hotel courtyard at night because the street parking was for residents of the neighborhood. Check w/ them first.

We stayed at the Cloister Inn which had a locked courtyard. You did have to reserve the parking in advance. Also, rental car company, at least in 1999, had to know you were going to eastern Europe to sticker the car properly. Have a great time, Prague is wonderful.

Perhaps you have a place already, but a friend of mine, who also drove from Germany, stayed at the Hotel Julian in the Mala Strana area because it has private parking. She liked the place quite a bit; it's mid-level in price.

We were there 2 or 3 summers ago. We booked out hotel (which was budget) through an on-line agency. The hotel was nothing fancy but in a great convenient location. We had to reserve a place for the car when we made our reservation. One of their employees wedged the car into the tightest spot I have ever seen in their courtyard. The car didn't move until we left Prague. No way would we have wanted to drive around the city.

Thanks for the suggestions. However, we are staying at an apartment that does not offer parking. Any ideas on secure parking lots that do not require staying at that residence? Thanks again!

Just take the train. 7 hours, about 60 EUR RT (cheaper than petrol for your car). You won't need or want a car is Prague, it's just a hassle.

I think it would be best to ask the person you are getting the apartment from as to the closest and best spot for parking.

I know of a few parking lots in Prague but don't have detailed info because I don't drive there. I'm not sure on the cost, but I think there is a watched lot at Malostranske namesti (Lesser Town Square). There are also public garages (don't know if they are watched) at namesti Jana Palacha (at the Rudolfinum) and National Theatre -- both those are on the other side of the river, but not far. Most of the public garages are in the Old Town side of the river, not Mala Strana. That's probably not the best location for someone with a car because of lack of parking. There are watched garages at the rail stations (main one and the Masarykovo one). I don't know costs on these.
