Prague hotel
Can you tell us where to find a map on line that shows key locations for accomodations and walking tours. We are currently booked at the prague marriott ($180) . However, breakfast is not included. Is this a good location and a good price for aug 28-31. Any other suggestions.

You might want to buy a map beforehand, I did. I got one at a US bookstore that was very good and helped me plan. I think it was a German map company, actually (Hellweg or something), but maybe Streetwise has one of Prague now.
ONline, this one seems pretty good

YOu can go into the sections and get large maps of the individual areas, like Old Town. I think unclegus means V Celnici, and if it is at that location, I think it is right near Republiky square. It's an excellent location, I've stayed near there several times. I think that hotel used to be a Renaissance, if that's the one. There are other Marriott brand hotels in the area, so you do have to specify the address.
Rate seems okay to me, given the bad state of the USD, but do you mean is that a good rate for the Marriott or a good rate for a Prague hotel, in general? If that's what their rate is, that's it, I'd say. I got a discounted rate in early August from the Hotel Pariz there a couple years ago, as they discounted that month. Their current specials are 140 euro in August for a double and that's about US$200, a bit more. I think the Hotel Paris is a bit nicer, certainly more historic, but the Marriott is perfectly comfortable. But the rate seems okay to me. This is the hotel I most recently stayed at

It's actually very near Namesti Republiky, also.

i always spell that street name wrong and I must have walked down it 100 times.Yes it is just round the corner from Namesti Republiky (also metro stop here) there is a new shopping center opened near there with lots of cafes to get breakfast in and there is a small mall almost next door to the Marriott that has a cafe in it last time i looked ,but if this is the correct hotel then lots and lots of places nearby to have breakfast.
The map Christina has provide is good but try and get one with the Metro and tram routes on it,I use the EuroCity map which is ideal. The website that the map that Christina provide is also an excellent source of info on Prague and on tours and things to do so have a look at its main pages .

Just along from the Marriot is the Municiple House (Obecni Dum) http://www.obecni-dum.cz/web/en/homepageand
worth a tour of this place or a visit for a drink or a meal, not the cheapest place in the city but truely elegant.just across the road from there are several tour company stalls where you can book just about any tour going, there is also a mall opposite that has several cafes inside,if you are really desparate there is a Subway sandwich shop in a small mall near there too.

The Renaissance is now a Hilton... I stayed there a few years ago. The Marriott is across the street by the indoor mall. Just walked through the lobby area of the Marriott but it looked very nice. Great location! Lots of cafes close by and there is a grocery store between the hotel and Namesti Republiky so you can stock up your hotel room!

danon,
What is your opinion about the crowds at this time of year? In another post, Spassvogel says it was hell, but we are going in August because that is the only time my daughters could travel with us & we wanted a family vacation. I hope I won't be too disappointed. We were in Prague in Oct 2003 & we loved it at that time of year. I'm afraid I'm spoiled.

The Prague Marriott that we booked is on V Celnici 8. I also read about Art Dec Imperial in the NY times travel section. It seems more European. Any feedback on the hotel and the location as compared to the Prague Marriott.

Kwoo, yes , it is crowded but no more than Amsterdam or Florence.
I like side streets, residential parts ( Vinohrady - 2 stops east from Musem is beautiful, not touristy, nice restaurants.
Visiting places that interested me like : Cubism Museum, Mucha Musem, Municipal House, Klementium , Spanish Syn. and St.Nicolaush was easy.
If you stay away from THE clock area....should be o.k.

Well, the Imperial is one of the best cafes in Prague, so definitely go there sometimes for breakfast, at least. It is a beautiful, historic cafe. The hotel is nothing much, as far as I know, but I've never seen the rooms. It wouldn't be in the same category as the Marriott. It's just a few buildings down the street. I think they must have recently renovated or something to be claiming to be a 5* hotel, so maybe it's much nicer now.

I just checked their rates, and they are more like 120 euro for a double, so I guess that's about $170 or around the same as the Marriott. It would be more European, I guess, but the Marriott is more convenient to the metro, actually. I mean, it's not that different, but the Marriott is about right at the metro on the corner and the Imperial is down the street maybe a block or two. It might kind of be nicer, in a way, as they built that huge megamall at that intersection which never used to be there, and it might be nice to be away from it. It says it is 200 m from that mall, so that's about two blocks. They also have some jazz in that restaurant some evenings, with dinner, so it might be nice to stay there for entertainment. If the rooms look good, I might go for that for the experience. I'd check tripadvisor's reviews first.
