Hi Tbass,
I stayed at Pension Veronika for about a week in May 2005. Got a double room on the second floor facing a little side street. They turned one of the beds into a sofa with cushions etc. Very clean room; nice bathroom; good breakfast spread. The pension is about a 10-minute walk to the nearest metro, Pankrac (about 8-10 minutes to Old Town). There's a market -- fruits, veggies etc -- near the metro station on certain days. I think I paid less than CZK900 per night for the room. Booked it through www.venere.com. Let me know if you need more info.

If you want a budget place, I can recommend Lida Guesthouse:
http://www.hejda.cz/Camery/praha1.htm
The hosts are very friendly. They have a computer room with free internet access and it's conveniently located a minute walk to the tram stop and the subway.
I paid about $30 US a night for a tiny single room with private bath. They have larger rooms too.

Long day, I meant to post http://www.sweb.cz/lidagh/english.html for the Lida Guesthouse. Oops! The other link is to the live webcam on the Charles Bridge.
