Prague & Vienna hotels?

Hi, my partner and I are planning to spend 4 days each in Prague & Vienna in October. Anyone have any enthusiatic recommendations for places to stay -- for no more than around 150 euros/night? We will be experiencing both cities mainly on foot and via the trams so prefer to be in the heart of things. Many thanks!

Hi Marsman:

We stayed at the Renaissance Penta Hotel in Vienna (part of the Marriott so 'predictable') its in a nice hotel in a fairly quiet, residential type area & should be in your price range.

It was about a 10 min walk to the Landstrade subway stop (which was 1 stop from Stephansplatz), there was a street car stop in front (3 stops, 5 min to Landstrade). Rennweg train station was a block away (train to/from airport) as well as the outlying areas.

Hope this helps.

Z

Enthusiasm: Yes, for Hotel Konig von Ungarn, in the heart of old downtown Vienna. Just steps from St Stephensdom, major shopping, restaurants and cafe's galore. Short walk to Hofburg, Vienna Boys Choir, etc. I think it meets your price target. Made reservations by email, was advised to be sure and get written confirmation, but had no problems whatsoever.

The breakfast (included) was substantial and very good. The desk most helpful in arranging reservations, tickets, etc.

I've found a nice apartment hotel in the heart of old town Prague via:

Tomas was very helpfull and the price was good $120 per night including full breakfast in room. The hotel name was U Ungelt (if I'm not mistaken). All attractions were easy by foot.

BillJ is out of date - KVH is euro188 for double room. They do not change prices during the year and you will not find internet specials. Renaissance compared to other choices for location is distinctly poor - off centre, with a long enough walk to be inconvenient and little within 5-10 minutes walk in way of attractions or attractive restaurants. I have recommended a number of times Starlight Suites in Renngasse location (they have 3, this is best), which I got for my mum at 100euro a night (160 rack rate). See if you can get a discount by direct contact - www.starlighthotels.com.October may be offering the discounts - very likely if late Oct. I looked at around 20 hotels and for the price we got it was outstanding value offering full lounge and bedroom with microwave and fridge, plus small gym (newish running machine, bike and sauna) for less money than rather chintzy pensions which offered just a bedroom. Only 5 minutes walk to dead centre (it is in central first district), with trendy bars nearby as well as some good restaurants).

Perhaps a little lower "class" - - but also cheaper, and a good value in my opinion is Pension Residenz; less than 200 yards from the Rathaus - - and thus, subway ride away from anywhere.

www.residenz.cc

And for Prague, I can report a very good experience with an apartment on Zatecka - - booked through www.athos.cz

No problem with a "sort" stay like 4 days. Nicely well under your budget. Phenomenally good location.

Best wishes,

Rex

I enjoyed the Betlem Club in Prague (very central, close to Charles Bridge) and Hotel Drei Kronen in Vienna (walking distance to the ring). Both were under $100 for a double at the time. They were clean and serviceable, which were all I needed.

Thanks to all for your replies. Has anyone stayed at the K&K Hotel Fenix in Prague, and would you recommend it?
