POTENZA PICENA, message for CMT
Dear CMT:
thanks so much for writing such a long e-mail trying to help me find POTENZA PICENA, the place where my granda was born.
I was a little annoyed at some other users' comments on this thread. For example someone wrote to you:
"And I do rather wonder whether she bothered to read your and my notes about writing to the mayors..."
Sorry I didn't reply before, I just didn't have the time to sit in front of the computer and do it.
CMT: I'm still interested in your offer in helping me writing a letter to the mayor of that town. Just let me know and I'll give you my e-mail address so you can write to me.
Thanks again

If you go back to your original thread on the subject (click on your screen name; it will come up in the left-hand column), you will find that CMT expressed the same doubts that I did and that you so evidently resented.

I don't remember offering to help you write a letter. I may have mentioned that I've written such letters for some friends and coworkers.
Eloise and I were both trying to be helpful and wondering whether you'd read the information.

If anyone is being rude on this subject, it is you.
And you are quite wrong: CMT did not in any way offer to write a letter for you.
In your relations with Italian officials, I would suggest that you adopt a much friendlier, lower-keyed tone. They are not obligated, any more than CMT is, to help you with your questions. Italians do not react well to aggressivity, while a little bit of politeness and consideration will often go a long way with them.
Think about it...
