Potentially dumb question about the Cinque Terre

I am almost embarrassed to even ask this.... we are going to the Cinque Terre in September. I have been reading about it and of course know I can walk from town to town on the trail. Here is the question though... is there one trail between each town, or are their several? And if there are several, what is the difference? I have read differing reports of trails between the same towns and have gotten myself confused! Any clarification appreciated. Ta Cathy

Hello LakesideChick,
I was there several years ago and I only know of one trail. You will have no trouble finding it. Wear shoes with good tread. The trail varies from very easy to a narrow path--some parts very narrow and steep. It is so beautiful--probably the most memorable hike of my life. It's easy to follow and will take you to the 5 villages. Allow plenty of time to gawk and enjoy! If you're fit, resist any temptation to cut the hike short. I seem to recall hiking to the five towns and then taking the boat back to Monterusso where we stayed. (Not sure about this part). Very breathtaking.

There is one coastal path which is by far the most popular but there are also walking trails inland as well.

I really enjoyed the walk but it seemed longer than the number of kilometres it really is so plan to spend the whole day and take it easy.

Hi; We parked our cars in Riomaggiore and took the boat to Vernazza and walked the trail back. Only did four towns. There were 12 of us and 8 were able to do the 4 towns. Four did one towm and then took the 'train' back. You can access the train from each town if you had a problem. Only the first section was a bit difficult. The trail closest to the water is the main trail and easy to follow. You will enjoy the walk, as it is spectular. www.cinqueterreonline.com/ Dick

We were too lazy to walk when we were there.

one tid bit I love about CT..
There is over 4000 miles of rock wall, all built without mortar. Incredible.

The best view is from the water--use the hop on/off ferry service to pick your hiking options.
