Positano in November? Please help...

I will be on my honeymoon in November and would like to stay in Positano 11/19-11/23. We'll be in Venice & Florence beforehand and want to end the trip on the Amalfi Coast. I've heard that many things shut down during this time in Positano. Is it worth going this time of year or should I try somewhere else. We really really want to go to Positano but are scared that it will be a ghost town with nothing to do. Thanks for any help you can offer!!!

Even at the height of the season, the best part of visiting Positano is relaxing and doing nothing. Apart from gazing at the picturesque views, there is nothing going on in town except tourist-oriented shopping. Many people use Positano as a base for taking ferries to Capri (for more views and shopping!), but in November, the only ferries reliably running depart from Napoli.

I suggest that you book yourselves into one of Napoli's fabulous and beautiful hotels with a view of Vesuvius. Napoli is jammed with things to do and has a fascinating, flamboyant culture, especially as a counterpoint to Venezia and Firenze. If you get sunny weather, you can easily take a day trip to Positano to see the views and have an elegant, dreamy lunch, or take a ferry to Capri for the same. From Napoli, it is much easier to tour Pompeii, which is a mind-boggling, awe-inspiring experience, even for those not avid about ruins or history.

Four and five star hotels in Napoli often cost less than they would elsewhere in Italy. I have never stayed at the Hotel San Francesco Al Monte in Napoli, but it is high on my list for my next visit to Napoli.
