I would also like to hear about experiences at Covo dei Saraceni. I have a booking for the Deluxe room at the Miramare based on the Fodors hotel reviews but found out about Covo dei Saraceni subsequent to my booking. The rooms at Covo dei Saraceni look great and it has a pool (a plus over Miramare) and most importantly, it is a lot cheaper than the Deluxe room at Miramare. What's the catch??

We loved Poseidon. Large room, great balcony, excellent, excellent breakfast, lovely pool, very good location, great service. Super spa with best facial. We liked food so much we had dinner there several evenings. Had regular double room.

We have a reservation for The Eden Roc in early July, I am also hoping it's a nice hotel. From everything I see and read, the place is beautiful. I think the whole hotel are suites. Go to tripadvisor.com they have a couple of reviews.

I second the recommendation for the Poseidon. It's a lovely family-run hotel where you're treated like a house guest. We had a jr. suite with an amazing view from the terrace overlooking all of Positano. The food at the hotel was heavenly, (esp. at lunch) as was the view from the restaurant terrace. I have only a couple of words of warning: Because of it's position, you have to be prepared to do a lot of uphill and downhill climbing to get to and from town. Also, make sure you look at the room before checking in. We heard that some of the rooms in the lower price categories can be painfully cramped. This may be why the hotel got mixed reviews on the forum, but we really had a wonderful stay there. Good luck!

My husband and I stayed at L'Ancora and loved it. There aren't a lot of frills (small/no lobby, no common area or antiques/artwork), but the rooms were great and the people were very, very friendly. We had a regular room and it was quite large. There was a balcony directly looking out at the water. The balcony doors were large and there was a curtain in front so we kept the doors open all night with just the curtain and it felt like we were sleeping in a cabana on the beach. It's also right next to Le Sirenuse where we went for drinks one night. Plus there's free parking. I also liked that it was far enough up the hill to have a glorious view, but not so far up that the walk to the beach we made each day was too much. I would highly recommend it.

As a side note, we rented a speedboat for a couple hours and had an absolute blast riding up and down the coast. Enjoy!

Hi Sunnie,
I will tell you that I thought the Hotel Eden Rock was a bit out of the way, altough the hotel its self is lovely.
I concure with Bob's advice
the Plazzo Murat( see karenbrown.com) is quite nice, but as Bob- said above its lower down the hill.
You might want to check out the Villa franca-www.karenbrown.com-click Italy Inns by town- the scroll down to Positano.
I will be in Italy next year I am getting married in Venice-please post a report on your hotel choice, we will be going to Positano for 5 days after the ceramony.
la doce Italy
Fluffy

I'd like to second Casa Albertina. We spent a few nights there on our honeymoon 8 years ago and then went back 4 years later to find the same room available! It was wonderful with amazing terrace and whirlpool bathtub. I looked it up recently online and was a bit disappointed to see that they seem to have raised their rates considerably. Both times however, we were able to negiotiate great walk-in rates.
You can see our experience there (albeit 4 years ago) at
http://www.wired2theworld.com
go to the RTW journal for sicily/positano

Mahalo for all the recommendations. This is so great to get inside scoop before you go on a vacation with such high expectations on where you are staying. Can someone tell me the advantages and disavantages of being higher up the hill compared to lower down the hill? Also Eden Rock is out of the way. What does that mean? Is Positano a place where you walk everywhere so that means you need to be close to town or is there transportation. I don't plan on having a car. I love to walk or I can take a taxi. I like great accomodations, great view but I am traveling with another couple. Their price range is $300.00 U.S and I can go up to $500.00 U.S. We want to stay at a pretty nice hotel together. They can have a nice room and I will opt for a suite. Please keep offering any suggestions. Ineed to book rather soon since I am going in Sept. Aloha

Sunnie,

The advantages of being uphill are the views, which are, to me, what Positano is all about. However, if you stay uphill in a place like Poseidon, you should be aware that you will be doing a lot of climbing back and forth to town.

Town itself is very small, and can be quite crowded in the summer season. A car is actually a liability in my mind, since parking is scarce. There is excellent public transportation to the other towns available on the SITA buses, which basically follow the coast in both directions. You can also take a boat from the dock to Amalfi, or a hydrofoil to Capri.

Just to give you an idea, from the Poseidon to the beach in town is probably about a fifteen minute walk, if that.

Good luck, and have a wonderful time!

We stayed at the Buca Di Baco in Positano last October and loved it. We had orginally considered Le Sirenuse until they told us a rate of 640 Euros with a Partial sea view. I always rely on Karen Browns Guide for advice and found the Buca Di Buca thru her book and web site. We requested room 10 as she suggests and it was lovely. The hotel is located on the beach and our balcony ws as large as most U.S. hotel rooms. The view and ambiance was magnificent. The hotel's lobby is small but they have a very nice room and patio with a delicious breakfast included in the rate. Our rate was around 325 euros. We did go to Le Sirenuse for a drink and was so glad we stayed elsewhere. It is an elegant hotel but lacks the charm of the Buca and the others mentioned. You will have a great time.
