Hi, Nikki,
Great pictures, did you stay at the B&B in Terena? I really like that place. It's too bad I didn't know you were going to be in Lisbon when you were, because we could have gotten together. Or maybe I missed a post -- was there a GTG? I left on Monday evening and am now going through my Portugal withdrawal. Laurie

Laurie, I'm sorry I missed you in Lisbon. I don't know that I mentioned I was going on Fodors. I did get together with Lobo and Matt, the two Lisbon residents from Fodors, while I was there.
I know what you mean about withdrawal. Are you planning to go back again?

Thanks to all who have commented.
Seetheworld, the market was in Estremoz. It is held every Saturday morning.
Bob, Marvao was one of the most spectacular sites I have ever visited. And remarkably uncrowded, which I suppose is due to its relative isolation. We were saying that if Marvao were in France, there would be mobs of people, you'd have to park at the bottom, and it would cost money to go into the castle. As it is, we drove up to the top, parked in front of the castle, had a snack at an uncrowded cafe hugging the cliff, and held our breath as we drove down the narrow streets hoping we wouldn't meet anyone coming the other way.

Nikki,
I totally share your feelings about Marvao. I've been there a couple of times now, the first in 2004 and most recently in 2008, and though you may find this hard to believe, there's definitely been a fair amount of "tourist-ization" over those years. In spite of the new tourist shops and road construction to make those narrow roads easier to drive on, Marvao is still not on many people's radar screens -- does that mean we should keep it a secret and stop putting rave reviews on the internet?
I am still suffering from "Portugal withdrawal." I hope to be back next March for a couple of weeks, maybe this time I can meet some other people from this board.
