For those who will be in Lisbon this May through July 15, I just read that "Lisbon Under Stars", an evening, multidisciplinary immersion experience, will take place in the Carmo ruins in the Archaeological Museum in Chiado. Might be interesting.

Progol. I hope you can meet up for a Tuk Tuk. It is more than the tour, it is also a connection with Fodor’s.
Maribel. You are spot on. How I remember all of those hundreds of posts. Maybe you and I could meet somewhere in the world some day. That would be lovely.
This trip was a little different and not what we had planned. I developed some hip problem right before we left and did not want to cancel. We used a lot of Uber cars and not a lot of walking. But we enjoyed people watching and lovely food.
It was just wonderful to be in a country that we really love and appreciate. Getting my problem resolved before the next adventure, whoever that may be. Thank you for all of your help.

Hi Sher and progol,
How I wish Lobo Mau would come back to post on Fodor's! I really enjoyed reading about Lisbon through his eyes, and I remember his Lisbon Dining Club, which we were never able to join, and his taking Fodorites to the Adega das Gravatas (where diners leave one of their ties to hang from the ceiling)! Glad to hear that he's doing well.
When we return in November, we'll try to book a tuk tuk tour with him to say hello.
And I booked our Lisbon Chiado (huge) apartment on Praça Luis de Camãos, if memory serves, thanks to your recommendation.
I also really appreciate that fado rec, Fado do Carmo, that's very handy for those staying in Chiado. And the dinner must be lovely, as I see the food is curated by Miguel Castro e Silva, who used to have the pesticos place "da Silva" close to the Gulbenkian and the Restaurante Largo in Chiado, both that we enjoyed, alas now closed.

Hi
I forgot about Santo Antonio.
Last time we were in Lisbon saw the floats parade down Avenida da Liberdade ( each neighborhood has their own).
Afterwards we walked thru Alfama, it seemed that at every sidewalk residents were selling grilled sardines. It was great, you may want to experience that.
We also saw some police with extra long batons( from their bellies to the ground). I asked them about it and they jokingly told me they were attitude adjusters.😂
Happy travels

There's a Portuguese concept of saudade, and your report is invoking it in me. It's been so long since I was in Portugal and we were only there for a few days. You're inspiring us to think about a return trip sooner rather than later. If only the summers are not so crowded...

HelenaFatima. I wanted to thank you again for your train help. We took the train from Porto to Coimbra and then one to Lisbon. I did want to ask you something though. It was recommended that we arrive in Santa Appolonia station since we were staying in Chiado. It was fine but do you have any idea why that particular terminal.
Maribel. I am sure lobo mau misses us. We actually left a Pittsburgh Steelers tie on one of our trips at the restaurant. If you decide to go to Fado do Carmo make sure you make a reservation in advance. The restaurant is quite small and it was really full but very intimate. The singers were fantastic. We again stayed in Chiado. The area is beginning to almost feel like a home away from home.

Hi
Not sure if HelenaFatima is familiar with Lisbon train stations since she lives in Porto.
Santa Apolonia station is closer to Chiado than Oriente station.
Shorter taxi ride or only one subway line (blue line) as opposed to two subway lines from Oriente ( pink and blue lines).
Happy travels

Maribel, sher, aulop, Helena - I did reach out to João and he got back to me quickly. It’s not working out for us as I had other plans made, but I would definitely consider taking a tour with him in the future. He sounds like a good person to meet and know here.
We have been very busy and seen plenty, although I suspect that it’s only half of what I had planned! Still, we have seen Belém and the monastery (fantastic), the Coach museum, the Gulbenkian museum, the tile museum, and we even managed to take the 28 tram at a less busy time (5:45PM). And, of course, lots of walking! Have I mentioned the uphills?
It is very busy and many of the sites do get quite crowded. It’s sometimes a bit overwhelming, and it’s taken me a while to “feel” Lisbon. But I’m really, really starting to enjoy the city and am glad we’ve had the time to let the place reveal itself to us.
We tried for dinner at the Taberna da Rua das Flores for dinner last night at 6pm - impossible. A good nearly 2 hours before a table was available. We went back for lunch today and we found out why the wait was so long! It’s tiny! But the food was excellent, and they are lovely.
Taberna da Rua das Flores
From our table in the “back room” . There’s only a table for 2 and a table for 4 and a tiny bar.
Razer clams
This is the front room.

For the time being, I'm still familiar with Lisbon train stations. But... many other things are quite new to me! I like reading these foruns, because I learn a lot about my own country!
I think, Paulo, that you are a very good "new" acquisition. You are very accurate. I hope you are here to stay!

wtm and KarenWoo, glad you’re enjoying the photos!
Karen, have a great trip to Greece! It was one of our early pandemic canceled trips and it’s still on the top of my list!
tripplanner, So far, Portugal is revealing itself in wonderful ways, though the crowds are quite intense at times. I hope that when you do visit, it will be less frenetic. Still, there are places that are much more peaceful, but clearly, as a first time visitor, I’m not really visiting them. And thank you for pointing out the meaning of “Saudade”. Oddly enough, I kept meaning to look it up and kept forgetting, so I did appreciate learning what it is.
