Portugal 52 days itinerary by public transportation
Dear
We are 50+ couple who like to travel to Portugal for 52 days From February 15th to April 6th 2024
We like to walk around old towns, cities and small towns.
We prefer travel by bus or train. (Rent car ONLY when train or bus not available)
We fly in Porto and fly out Lisbon.
We plan our itinerary from north to south.
We do like to reserve all our hotels before departure. Once we start our trip we never change our itinerary in the past.
(2)(3)(4)…= number of nights
(Alcobaca)….= day trip
Bus = travel to the town by bus
Porto (5) (flight in)
Braga (2) bus
Guimaraes (2)bus
Régua/Pinhāo (2) train/car/tour?
Viseu? (Skip)??
Aveiro (2) train
Coimbra (4) Train
Leiria (2) Bus
Fatima (2) Bus???
Tomar (2) Bus???
Nazare (2) Bus?? (Alcobaca)
Obidos (2) Bus
Peniche ?(skip)???
Évora (4) Bus (Monsaraz/Estremos/Arraiolos)
Beja (2) Bus
Mertola (2) Bus
Monte Gordo Bus ??? (2) (Vila Real/Ayamonte )
Tavira (4)
Faro (2) bus or train
Albufeira (2) bus or train
Lagos (3) bus or train (Sagres/Salema)
Lisbon (7) Bus
Sintra (3) train (to airport & home)
Our main problem is public transportation.
Is the order of cites/town correct for public transportation ???
Any better suggestion on order of towns?
Where will I have problem finding bus?
We can add towns or delete towns, we can also shorten number of nights at Porto or Lisbon if necessary.
I did do research on Romeo, but some place I cannot find bus on bus website.
We appreciate your suggestions. Thanks

Finding bus routes to all of your desired destinations may be problematic. The Portuguese national bus company is Rede Expressos.
Check here.
For trains, Comboios de Portugal, here.
For the Douro line train to Régua in the Douro you would need to take it from Porto. I don´t know about bus service to Régua from Guimarães.
To reach Aveiro (skipping Viseu) from Régua in the Douro you would need to return by the Douro train line to Porto, then catch a different train from Porto to Aveiro. There are many trains that run on that route, from high speed AP and IC to far less expensive, regional trains. Check here.
