Byrd, thanks, your trip report was a delight to read. Thanks also for including your ages.

I like your style of travel,(public transportation, not going upscale in hotel budget and taking time to people watch).

If you need help unloading those zillion Sky Miles, you can toss some my way Deborah

You are all so nice! Thank you for your kind words.

mvor, the "TG" (travel group) probably will be heading to Amsterdam and Bruges (with day trips from each)this fall.
We're still trying to get some dates, as all the others are still among the gainfully employed and have some work-related obligations, poor things.

Deborah, now that we know how much fun those Sky Miles can mean, I'm afraid they are not available!

Byrd

Wow Byrd! Thanks for proving that mature people can be as spontaneous as us young'uns.

I'm going to show this to my mom and tell her to remind my uncle. My mom needs no reminders. We're still hoping for something to come along before our trip in a few weeks...greedy as we are!

Hello Byrd, I so enjoyed your trip report and the fact that you took off for Italy without any hesitation or preplanning. I have often thought that the most fun trips I have had are those that were not preplanned, including going to Italy.

My late DH loved to take a trip "spur of the moment". One morning he said "tomorrow we are going to Hawaii" and we did for two weeks! More than once we got in the car and drove north and ended up in Canada..only planning or shall I say not planning it the night before.

I just got invited down to Southern CA tonight..to leave tomorrow. How I wish I could go..but this time I can't due to other commiments. But if not for that I would be packing right now.

Again, thank you for sharing your fun trip..I so enjoyed your trip report!!

Thanks again, everybody, for your nice comments.

LovesItaly, we've always loved a spur-of-the-moment jaunt. We live just a few hours from New Orleans, and many weekends we have been in NO in time for Saturday morning brunch.

And after retirement, it took us a while to realize that we didn't have to wait until Friday afternoon to go somewhere!

But, you know--the several months of planning for a big trip are fun, too. I guess we'll just have to continue to do some of both!

Bayrd

Byrd-
Your trip report is a delight to read,
and you are truly people after my own heart. I have always loved the extra thrill of last minute trips. It turns out that my next trip to Italy is going that way due to unforeseen circumstances, so you are my inspiration for the next 2 weeks while I live on the edge of whether I can leave or not.

Then when I read that you live near NO, it reminded my of a time years ago when my (then) boyfriend and I were dropping a houseguest off at the Baltimore airport . It was the day before Fat Tuesday and he was flying home to NO.
Needless to say, he talked us into hopping on the plane with him and within hours we found ourselves at a "Ball" with him and his wife, then at breakfast at Brennan's the next morning! A cherished memory... thanks again for your wonderful report.

Thank you, llartista, SallyCanuck, and bellastarr.

llartista, I well remember having a great vicarious romp through France and Italy in your trip report a few months ago!

bellastarr, New Orleans is a remarkable city and your Mardi Gras visit sounds wonderful.
