Hi euro,

As best I know, a train ticket in Italy is good for only 6hr if it is less than 200km.

I am willing to be corrected.

There is a back entrance to the ruins that is closer to the town of Pompeii, rather than the scavi station, but there is no luggage storage there. We know because we accidentally ended up at Pompeii instead of Pompeii scavi and walked to the ruins, and then decided to keep walking to the scavi entrance because we wanted to check our backpacks.

thank you ira....rome to pompei is way less than 200km? i guess.. ...leslie, grest! I thought is was only an exit..but I think I will go to hotel by the fast train walk to hotel and then leave luggage. that will be convenient ..then I can catch the train down to salermo and hopefully take the ferry to positano. thanks
