Poll: If this was your vacationing situation what would you do?? (Sicily/Rome)
I will be traveling with my boyfriend (who has never been to Europe) in late March-early April. The only place that I have been in Italy is Venice for 3 nights. We will have 11 nights. Most of this will be in Sicily, but am contemplating a stop in Rome for 3 nights then go on to Sicily.

Is our time better spent all in Sicily, or due to the fact that neither of us has been to Rome should we also experience that as well?

Opinions, please!!

Go To Rome, by all means. I've been 4 times and would go again in a heartbeat. There is a budget hotel near the foot of the Spanish Steps that is a real bargain for the $ - name is Hotel Eduardo or something close to that. The Tourist Information desk at the airport could probably find it. Since you have 11 days, I strongly recommend that you stay in Rome at least 5. Don't miss the Pizzaza (sp?) Navona. The old Romans used to flood it and use it for "naval" battles. Go in the evening and have gelato. Don't forget the Catacombs - you can get there by bus. And there is a very interesting chapel about 4 blocks up the Via Veneto from Barbarini Square. Enjoy!!!

I agree that you should do both but not that you will have enough time in Sicily - I did not find 12 nights enough for all I wanted to do there. I made notes after going to Sicily in Feb 2001 and will send them if you e-mail me. They may help you choose what to see. Do see Rome, though.
