Please share your experience renting apartment in Prague

Hi,
My wife and I are planning to be in Prague from May 26 to June 3 (8 nights). We want to rent a quiet apartment (no noise from the street) in a good neighborhood (preferably around Mala Strana) for 2 people. There are plenty of Czech web sites that offer apartments with different price range. They also give info about location and general description of the apartment. All of them look pretty good on a computer screen, but in reality.. Who knows..
I would appreciate if someone shares his or her experience renting apartment in Prague and gives specific information about renting company.
Thanks. Lev.

We had an excellent experience renting two adjacent apartments in May 2004 from www.athos.cz on the street Zatec (or maybe Zatecka - - note: "c" is pronounced "ts" - - thus "Za-tets" or Za-TETS-ka).

We had the apartments on the highest floor, with an elevator that ran (retrofitted on the ourtside of the building) from floor "one-half" to floor "four and a half", and then we had an additional flight of stairs to climb.

Our landlady was immensely helpful to us in getting our car parked (secured, sheltered car park at 10 dollars per night) and shuttling us to and from on arrival and departure days (the latter was a Sunday morning, of the Prague marathon, so it was a hassle for her, but she was cheerful about it).

Fantastic value, and excellent facilities. Great location.

Best wishes,

Rex

Failed to add these details: these were two apartments for the five of us; my wife and I in a one-bed apartment which was nicely spacious and had an adequate kitchenette - - and our three daughters in a separate apartment with three twin beds, even roomier. We did not use their kitchenette personally (perhaps they did, for snacks).

We also rented an apartment...through Athos Travel. They were wonderful...also used them for transfers. We had an apartment a few steps from the square, very quiet as the room was in the back. Small balcony from the bedroom, jacuzzi in the bath. No TV. Have fun. Zatec is different from Zatecka.

Thank you Rex and Cheryl.
I checked the Athos website.
Rex, Zatec has an apartment on the 4th floor ($108 per night) and attic ($116 per night). Was your attic apartment quiet? I assume that there was no air conditioning in the building. Could you hear a street noise in the unit when you opened window?
Cheryl, Zatecka can accommodate 4 people and it costs $220 per night. There are only 2 of us and I am not ready to pay this price for an apartment in Prague.
Did anyone stay in an apartment in Mala Strana area (Prokopska 10, Vlasska or other apartments) ?

You might check this website
http://www.pragueaccommodations.com/ for apartments on Vlasska. We have not stayed there yet, but have reserved for June. They have been very helpful with quick email responses and have good reviews on Trip Advisor Forums. I found forum comments by searching for "Vlasska" or "Pragueaccommodations"

Lev - Wow...that's much higher then I paid. I went that route because it was less then most hotels recommended from this site.

I can highly recommend The 7 Angels - the location on a quiet side street between Old Town Square and the Charles Bridge is excellent, the apartments are huge and are very well furnished with modern kitchens. They even have laundry and room service (cleaning). While a full breakfast in the restaurant is included, I would opt instead to either step outside a block or two and bring it back or fix your own. The restaurant is much better for lunch or dinner.

I have used pragueaccomodations, athos, travel.cz, and prague-apartments4u

All had great apts. The 1st two are big companies, the other two are run by locals. All are very good. I had great personal service with all 4 companies.

As far as noise, it depends on which way the place is facing. If your bedroom is facing the street or a tram line, you are out of luck. Ask ahead of time before you book.

Some other companies are marys.cz, and happyhouserentals.com I have inquired about places through them, but never actually booked.

Good luck, and feel free to post back with more questions..

PS (Vlasska is a good street for rentals, because it is like a narrow alleyway. Not tons of traffic)

The problem with Vlasska, where I have stayed (number 8 Vlasska, I think) is that the US Embassy is there.

This means that any taxi or car passing by the Embassy has to stop for a search of the trunk, passage of a mirror under the car and other highly irritating folderol.

Thank you very much!
There are so many web sites on the Internet that offer apartments.
I found one that offers apartments that look very attractive on the web and for a reasonable price
at
http://www.prague-apartments.us
They offer one bedroom apartments (bedroom, living room and kitchen) for under $100 per night in a good area of Prague including apartment at VLASSKA, 12 in Mala Strana.
Has anyone used this website to make a reservation? Do you know anything about VLASSKA 12? I was trying to find out more about this particular building on the Internet, but the only info I was able to find – there is fruit and vegetable shop (Ovoce a Zelenina) in this building.
Lev.

when i was working in prague, i used happy house rentals http://www.happyhouserentals.com/index1.php

Petr was the agent and he was great...not sure if he is there any longer though. had a great flat in the Karlin neighbourhood. not traditionally the most desirable neighbourhood but quiet and very close to the centre. this neighbourhood was totally flooded out a few years ago so the old buildings are all being restored. it is lovely and i would buy a place in this area as it will soon be a prime neighbourhood.

US Embassy is on Trziste, which turns into Vlasska. All vehicles are wanded on the way past the embassy, but this is not a big deal, and I felt pretty safe staying on that street! Of course, if someone really wants to target the embassy, they could blow up the whole street, but, I wouldn't worry! Don't know about the website you found, Lev, but the locations & prices seem good. Let us know what you decide & how you make out!
