Hi Fodorites!

Thanks, in advance, for your help (I'm sure it will be helpful and very interesting, as my past experiences with Fodorites have shown me )Our family of four will be going to Portugal (June 12th to June 24th). We will have 2 days in Lisbon, then will join a big group in Algarve and Porto. We will then come back for Lisbon for 2 nights (to do Sintra) before heading out back to the US. Here is what i am thinking for the first Lisbon portion of our itineary. Please give me feedback. I have two daughters (10 and 4) so any family friendly advice/feedback would also be appreciated!

We are staying in the Barrio Alto/Chiado area I believe (our AirBnb is right across from Hotel de Baixa: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/199461?s=51I am not specifically setting aside time to tour the Barrio Alto/Chiado area as we are living here. SO am hoping will get enough of it as we wander around a bit for dinner, etc.

1. Day 1 (June 13th): Flight lands at 11:00. Not looking to do too much this day because not sure how the kids will do with jetlag, etc. Thinking of Rossio Square, Sao Jorge Castle, Sunset at Miradouro da Senhora do Monte, Dinner somewhere nice
2. Day 2 (June 14th): Belem Tower, Jeronimos Monastery, Monument of Discoveries, Praca do Comercio Square
3. Day 3 (June 15th): We meet up with friends at 5pm this day to head down to Portimao. I can think of three options for this day before we head out at 5. What do you think:
   1. Option 1: Tram to Alfama, roam around Alfama area
   2. Option 2: A museum - Gulbenkient Museum or the Tile Museum. My younger one is only 4, so not sure how she will do at Museums. But my older one will do well, I think. She likes history and loved the Acropolis museum in Athens.
   3. Option 3: Do a Withlocals tour. This one : https://www.withlocals.com/experienc...tyle-36b094e2/ What do you think about this? Honestly, I am not sure because when I look at the plan, it does not seem to cover any big destinations (but maybe that is the point. Less touristy more local!) Here is their itinerary:

When you visit the Monument of the Discoveries, be sure to take the elevator to the top for spectacular views of the monastery, river, port, and Belem Tower. There were no lines when we were there. There will be long lines at Belem Tower.

The Gulbenkian is a wonderful museum but you are probably right that a 4 year old would not enjoy it as much as the older child. Same for the Tile museum - and probably all museums except those explicitly for kids!
Do keep an eye on your 4 year old at Castle San Jorge - lots of climbing areas with little or no safety rails. Great site, but lots of walking uphill to get there - consider an uber to get you close to the entrance.
