Please help with train in Italy

My daughter and her friend (students studying in London) would like to book an overnight train from Ventimiglia to Venice leaving 20/5/05 in the evening. They were hoping to book couchettes but neither she nor I have had any luck with Trenitalia"s web site. An email to Trenitalia 3 days ago goes unanswered and there is a charge to use their call center. Anyone have any ideas? Should they just book tickets on-line and hope to get sleeping accomocations at check in? Is it worth paying to call train company? Please help as they leave on trip soon. Thank you so much in advance.

What actual difficulties were you having? Did you type Venezia as a destination?

I note that there is a direct train at a bit after 10PM which arrives in Venice around 7AM without having to change trains.

Will they be in Italy before they depart Ventimiglia? If so, perhaps they could wait till they arrive to purchase.

Thanks for the quick response! They will actually be in Nice that day and have found a train from Nice to Trentalia. The train you found is the one they want. The trouble is not being able to book a couchette or other sleeping arrangement. If all that is available is seats, they might opt for an earlier train and another night in a hostel.

Did you actually find the box in which you would choose the couchette? After you click the cart, below the schedule there's a drop down menu you must press to access couchette choices.

Many people have trouble with the trenitalia site when they try to purchase during nonbusiness hours in Italy.

Good luck

Hi susan,

You can buy 2 tickets for 2cl couchettes from Nice to Venice via Ventimiglia (depart 19:11, Arr 07:36 at Venice SL) on www.sncf.com for 138E.
