Wow - jared a much clearer post. I was getting soooooo confused!

As for your new question - QEF Park is Lovely and so is the Lake of Menteith. I may have overlooked it - but WHEN are you traveling? If it is before the end of Sept, you should consider taking the launch out to Inchmahome Priory in the Lake. It is a BEAUTIFUL site - great for a picnic. QEF Park can be driven through with a couple of short walks in less than an hour. Of course if you want to hike farther it will take longer.

Yes janis, I was planning that launch for lunch.

Thank you for your reply, I will keep to the short walks idea and btw, I appreciate your comments generally as I have used a lot of your thoughts (and many others) in preparing my trip.

Seeing the name Anstruther jogged my memory. 18 months ago I had the best fish and chips EVER in the next village along - Pittenweem. It had been voted the second best fish and chip shop in Great Britain, a well deserved title I can tell you! If anyone's ever in the area the Pittenweem Fish and Chip Bar mertis a visit.

Jared, also remember that driving long distances in the UK is much more difficult than driving long distances in the US. Last Saturday, I had the distinct pleasure of driving from Ardrossan in Scotland to Liverpool. Before getting to the motorway, I spent around 2-2.5 hours driving through little towns and around roundabouts, and got about 80 miles or so. It's wearing. I can drive 400-500 miles in a day in the US with no problem, but find that 150 miles in the UK and Ireland takes at least as much effort.
