Hi Bob,

If you need any help with the Engadine or Val Versazca, let me know.

I picked up a magazine today in a waiting room, don't remember the name of the publication, but there was an article on visiting a town in the Dolomites called Madonna di Campiglio. I was charmed by the description given!

A ski resort at this time of year, but it looks to be a wonderful summer destination as well.

The getting there link on the above website says it is 70km from Trento.

Re: Madonna di Campiglio...

On our 'free lance' (summer) ramble through this beautiful area, we spent a night at the Garni Maso Mistrin in the nearby village of S. Antonio di Mavignola. We were en route from Venice to the Engadin...

Fabulous information from everyone. We will put this to good use. Thanks for the websites too.

Looks like we will fly into Venice, pick up a hire car, drive north to Cortina and base ourselves (probably) in Ortisei. Then drop the car off in Bolzano or Bressanone and train to Innsbruck. Hope there is no one way drop off fee, the car hire will all be within Italy so hope not.

The only thing that bothers me is the lack of time! I think that's true on all our trips.

Thanks Tuck--should be fun !

Schuler---I was counting on it, but too early for details now. We have seen Val Versasca years ago but now I want the digital pics.

Kay--there will be no drop charge in Italy---I am not sure if you can get a car in Bressanone.

Mr Go---I see work is slow.

Hi Bob the navigator,
If you'll be in Meran/Merano, just west of here starts the Val Venosta/Vinschgau and one of the first towns is Tirol/Tirolo and Castle Tirol.

www.schlosstirol.it

Just a little further west is Castle Juval. It's the residence of mountaineer Rheinhold Messner and open to the public except for a month or two in summer.

http://www.suedtirolerland.it/en/pas...o-naturno.html

Thought it may be of interest.

Paul

Nope. Multi-tasking. Ask Mrs. Nav, she can show you how it's done!

Nice pix you sent earlier, btw. Scary hairstyles and all.

BobtN, your trip sounds terrific. We love the Italian Lakes and feel that our trip that focused solely on them was one of the best we've ever taken. Thanks for your generous invitation to join the fun. It's very tempting but it sounds like this should be a trip to renew long time relationships rather than make new friends. You and your wife will join Elizabeth Taylor as former guests of the Serbelloni (and its appendages). Now that's an anniversary celebration. I'm going to check out the places in the surrounding areas that you mention. We want to return to the Lakes and adding some of the areas you're going to might give us a broader perspective. Thanks for the info. Enjoy your special trip. And, of course, report back.
