Please help w/England Drive Times

Please give me some help with drive times. Our last day in England we leave Bath for a
short stop at Stonehenge and then drop off our car at Heathrow. Can you tell me the
est. drive times from Bath to Stonehenge and then Stonehenge to Heathrow?
Thank you

Have a look at the AA Route Planner at:

We wanted to do the same thing last year but had an early afternoon plane and decided to cut Stonehenge out. I think it should have taken about 2-2 1/2 hours from Bath (without the detour to Stonehenge, which was about 45 minutes away from Bath). The main reason I am posting this, is that we got in a huge traffic jam on the highway (M5?) and would have missed our plane had we stopped in Stonehenge. Allow time for traffic as well as the Stonehenge tour if that's what you decide to do. We were at a dead standstill for about 30 minutes for what turned out to simply be a truck with a flat tire on the highway shoulder. We travelled at or slightly above the speed limit otherwise and it still took longer than we had calculated.

I second the suggestion to use the AA (British Automobile Association, like the US AAA).

Their route planner is excellent -- they estimate travel time for you too, and tell you about any "notorious black spots" where you can use your mobile to call for updates. We used it for our December visit, and it worked out very well. (And I was driving, DH navigating which he hates to do. We didn't get lost at all!)

Traffic around Heathrow gets confusing and congested, especially with the Terminal 5 construction. Allow plenty of time...

I don't want to scare you, but it took me 45 minutes just to find my way out of Bath by car. In other words, it's wise to allow extra time if you aren't terribly familiar with UK roads and routes. Driving in Bath was quite a challenge.

I found it to always be a good idea to supplement UK drive guides with more detailed city and specific area road maps before driving into a city or general area. They are available at garages (gas stations) along the major highways and as you enter cities. You won't regret buying them.

And another "I don't want to scare you" . . . .

The congestion on the motorway and through the junctions around LHR can be a REAL nighmare. I drive in the UK a lot and am pretty used to the black spots, the travel advisories that pop up on your car radio, and how to make detours on the fly - but last June on a Sunday afternoon (should have known better) it took me 70 minutes to get from Windsor to a hotel just off the airport. There was a solid tailback (traffic jam) of about 5 miles of cars "parked" on the motorway.

And the construction is only making things worse.
