Please help regarding Italy train strike

We just found out that there is going to be a train strike between 5/20 9 pm and 5/21 9 pm. We were planning to travel from Varenna to Venice on 5/21. It seems that we will not be able to travel via train. Does anyone have suggestions as to how we can get to Venice from Varenna? Or, should we try to re-arrange our hotel reservations to travel one day earlier or later?

Thanks in advance for your help!

There will be very limited service (if any) that day, and a million people will be in your situation. I highly reccommend you leave the day before as to avoid unnecessary stress and mayhem.

Hi mw,

You're lucky. You know about the strike.

Rearrange your schedule.

And also adjust your "attitude." You will be in Italy. Get used to it. Unfortunately, the Italians do.

I have always wondered why "common practices" south of the Alps would not be tolerated north of the Alps.

Thanks for your advice. I'll work on re-arranging hotel reservations. We're going to be on our honeymoon and prefer not to have to deal with additional stress after the wedding planning...

How do you find out when they will be striking, and where in Italy? I am going in June, and all of the strike reports I see on this forum are starting to get me nervous!

There's a post from a few days ago with a website listing.

QUESTION: I have a car rental but am supposed to be taking a train from Venice to Chiusi to pick it up. Should I change that arrangement now or wait and see if the strike actually develops. From what I hear, sometimes they do strike and sometimes strikes are cancelled. Suggestions?
