Please help my trip to Germany and Austria

My itinerary will begin from Munich,we plan to rent a car from Munich to Neuschwanstein start early in the morning from the Airport then we will stay at Innsbruck the same day,the next day we will go to Zurich and Luzern ,we will stay at Zurich and Luzern for 1 night each then we will be back to Munich and stay for 2 nights.Does it sound practical and I would like to get the info about driving route,Austrian tax for Autobahn too? Thanks.

To be honest, I've never enjoyed staying somewhere for only one night, except maybe an overnight along the way somewhere in a small town or in the country.
You're talking about doing three one night stays with a drive between each one (although granted it isn't much of a drive from Zurich to Luzern. Then you drive back to Munich where you will have one full day?

Where are you arriving in Munich from at the beginning? Will you be up to a major day of sightseeing and a full drive that day?

You will not see much of anything in Switzerland. Spending a few hours in Zurich and then a few hours in Luzern doesn't really accomplish much. If you want to see the Alps, you need to allow a full day just for a decent excursion -- say to Pilatus or the Jungfrau. You can't do things like that between two cities for one night each.

If you are talking about a grand total of only 5 nights, trying to do three countries simply doesn't make any sense. If I only had five nights, I'd just stay in Munich and maybe do the day trip to Neuschwanstein for one of those days.

Or is it possible that you might land in Zurich and depart from Munich? That would help a bit. Also, I love Zurich, but would suggest staying in Lucerne for both nights. J.

sarakune,

Given your relatively short stay, might I suggest that you limit your time to Germany, and leave Switzerland for a future holiday. Surely the city of Munich is worthy of at least a couple full days' exploration, preferably three. The other couple days would be well spent around Ludwig's famous digs. Should you explore southern Bavaria, by all means make a point of touring Wieskirche and Kloster Ettal, a couple rococo jewels.

We have spent a lot of time in this area.

I would not do your itinerary. Go from Munich and spend your time in the Garmisch/Neuschwanstein area. Plenty to see, do and enjoy while staying in one place. If you insist on Innsbruck it is an easy drive over and back in one morning early afternoon.

Innsbruck just not that great. Old town area is quick to see and shop. Zurich is a large town with a lot of traffic. Lucerne okay, but better to see on another trip.

With the time you have available I would concentrate on Bavaria. This would eliminate all your one nighters at hotels and the area is beautiful. Linderhof/Oberammergau/Ettal Abbey/Zugspitz and more.

Too many times people going to Europe forget that Europe has traffic also and you can get stuck in it. Worst one I ever saw was leaving Zurick a few years ago. Took hours.
