Please help - looking for a house/villa in Italy

I am looking for a free standing house/cottage/villa in Tuscany or Umbria or Lombardy (the less touristy the better, which probably eliminates Tuscany), and on the Amalfi coast (for the second week of vacation). It should sleep 6 adults (3 couples). Anyone know of anything off the beaten path? Any help would be wonderful. Thanks,
Natalie

Have you tried rentvillas.com, villaeurope.com or homebaseabroad.com? Both rent apartments, cottages, houses etc. Rentvillas seems was highly recommended. A friend has used villaeurope.com a number of times for rentals in Tuscany.

Try tuscanynow.com. Any number of villas, cottages, farmhouses, etc. and many well off the beaten path. They do all areas, not just Tuscany. Used them last year and they were very good. However, you should know you are late for finding a place this year. They get booked by the end of January. Good luck.

Try villeinitalia.com. You will enjoy their web site - many villas in Tuscany and on the Amalfi Coast. We have booked through them ourselves for this summer. Good luck!

I have rented from:Ville in Italia

www.omnia.addr.com

They were great! We are planning to stay at the estate we rented again. I did research on this for about a year, and if you email me, I can give you a list of all the links that I found.

I did discover that the parker group was extremely overpriced. The had the same property listed that we ended up renting from Ville in Italia. and the price from Ville was substanially lower. The estate was exactly what they had described on the site, but even better. I have recommended this company to many people on this site, and a couple have rented from them with excellent results. If you have any questions regarding procedures, etc. just email me, and I would love to help. (and no.....I don't work for this company in any way! I am just a satisfied customer!) Carey

knowital.com get my vote also - lots of choice and information and, best of all, you're dealing direct with the owners - no agency fees or commissions. Best of luck!

Try the latest issue of National Geographic Travelers Magazine. It should still be on the newsstands.

We have friends who were very pleased w Vacanza Bella at www.vbella.com. They are based in San Francisco and tend to favor Umbria over Tuscany because it is less touristy. The owner will only rent to you after you have perused their web based listing and then speak to him by phone so he can get a clear understanding of your tastes and preferences and can better advise you.
