Please give advice on dining/lodging in Western Ireland
We will be going to Western Ireland this weekend. I'm putting together information on recommended dining experiences as well as lodging (B&B or Guesthouse). Did you have a great dining/lodging experience? Can you recommend some for me? We will just be going as we see fit, no reservations but for 2 places (Galway and Dingle). Thank you!

We really liked a B&B in Spiddal- Ardmor Country House. The gardens were gorgeous and the hostess had the best breakfast. Mrs. Vera Feeney has won the Galtee Irish Breakfast award three times. Mr Feeney is a great guy, too. I noticed that you were going to the Aran Islands from Rossaveal so I thought you might like this place.
In Clifden, we enjoyed the pub grub at E.J. Kings and the dinner at Off The Square. I had mussels with cream and garlic for starter- the serving was at least 4 dozen- absolutely huge. So big, in fact, that the other diners started laughing when the waitress brought it out. Hey, I offered to share with them!
In Doolin, I recommend Bruach na hAille. The food is simple but excellent. In Ballyvaughan, the seafood chowder is great (I also just heard that the chocolate ice cream there is very tasty.)

Just last week we stayed for two nights at Abbeyglen Castle in Clifden. We really enjoyed it, especially the dining experience. The rooms were nice, as was the bar and the dining room. The meals were exceptional. I highly recommend it.

We tend to go for a long weekend each year in Clifton. The first time we stayed at Abbeyglen Castle and I recommend it. Some rooms are a higher standard than others but this is reflected in the prices. The dinners are superb and we got a deal off the website for 2 nights, 2 dinners and breakfast. Get a room away from the lobby though as the parrott can imitate the phone ring, and may do so at night, really bizarre.
We had a champange reception in the bar on the fist night (included) and ended up with a bottle on our own. Very fun a wobbly night . The Father & Son managers (Owners?) are real gents and helpful and most weekend nights there is music or a sing song in the bar.
If this is too expensive try the Buttermilk Lodge. Lovely B&B and a quick walk to the village. They had excellent breakfasts i.e pancakes or smoked salmon and eggs. The rooms were lovely as well. I stay 3 nights this summer for the first time.
There are several good restaurants in the village but overall it ain't cheap. Saying that all of the meals except for bad place was good. If I can remember names I will pass along later. You can get pub diners and the chipper as well.
Oh you can just eat at the Abbeyglen castle but you must book in advance. Its a nice splurge.

In Doolin, the Lazy Lobster was excellent.
In Dingle, the Half-Door -- We had a great lunch with the same type of mussels that "edhodge" mentioned -- in a cream and garlic sauce. The best mussels we have had in Ireland -- I'll have to try the ones in Clifden next time up there -- next trip.
