I have been researching the forums looking for advice on planning my honeymoon in Italy (about 15 days). I plan on landing in Milan and heading to Santa Margherhita.
My first question would be, are there buses that go from LIN airport to the train station and how often do they run. I have searched the net but I could not find anything.
Q2. Some discussions say, it is better to stay in Santa Margherita longer and do a day trip to Cinque Terre than to spend a few nights in Cinque Terre.
Q3 After about 5 days in the Amalfi Coast I wanted to go to Sicily - any recommendations for how long to spend in Sicily and how to get there.
Would appreciate any advice

You're trying to cover a lot of ground by starting at Santa Margherita and ending in Sicily. Have you determine the travel time involved?

seriously, I agree that you are trying to pack a lot in. you need to think, as Jean has said, about where you are flying into and out of, and how much time it will take to get between all those places on your list. the general rule of thumb is that every time you move you lose half a day - so moving from Milan to Santa Marguerita, to the Amafi, to Sicily and then to ? to fly home is at least 2 days lost. of course, just because you are arriving in Northern Italy doesn't mean you have to stay there, but there are some lovely places to visit a lot closer than Sicily - the lakes, Venice, the dolomites, Piedmonte, the CT, Liguria - I could go on. and on. do you want to laze on a beach? look at ruins? visit vinyards? take boat trips? climb mountains? sail windsurfers? all of that is available and more.

Thank you for all the advice. We are going the beginning of September for 15 days.
Our thoughts were to go to the Amalfi Coast since neither one of us have been there. We have been to Venice, Verona, Roma, Florence, Cortina and we wanted to go somewhere we both have not been.
After reading all of your advice, I am now thinking of spending 1-2 nights in Milan when we land, 4-5 days in Santa Margherita, 4-5 days in Amalfi coast and 3 days in Sicily - flying out of Sicily. I think that was a great idea. Do you think that is still to much to do. We both are quite active, so sitting all day on the beach is not what we would like to do every day. I read about the hikes and would love to take some boat trips. My fiance loves wine and it would be great if we could visit some vineyards.
As far as tranportation, I was not planning on driving, we were planning on taking the train between places and when we are at each location just using local transportation. My fiance wants to stay at Ravelo in the Amalfi Coast and I wanted to see Taormina, Sicily because a friend of mine highly recommended it.

I just looked up train from the Amalfi coast to Taormina. There's a non-stop train leaving Salerno (just south of the coast) at 10:30 that arrives at 16:44. Shorter than I thought. You will need to taxi up the hill to Taormina.

Ravello is not actually on the coast. It's in the hills up high with wonderful views down to the coast. But no beach, no boats, fewer buses.

For Santa Margherita Ligure to Naples, you can catch a train at 8:22 and arrive (after 2 changes) at Naples Centrale at 15:10. Then you'd have to get yourself to the Amalfi coast. Does your budget run to a private driver? If so, that's the way to go. Otherwise, taxi to the port and take a boat (if in season). Or go down to the basement of the Naples Centrale station and catch the Circumvesuviana commuter train to Sorrento, continue on to the AC by SITA bus.

I'd stay in SML and make daytrips not only to the Cinque Terre but also to Portofino, Camogli, and maybe Genoa.

Thank you Mimar for all the information. I will definately keep all that information. I wonder if it would be easier to catch a flight down to Naples from SML.
Where would you recommend to stay in the Amalfi Coast over Ravello?

Alitalia has flights from Genoa to Naples. And yes, that would be faster. Of course you have to get yourselves to the Genoa airport, and then from the Naples airport to the Amalfi coast.

On the actual Amalfi coast, the 2 main choices are Positano and Amalfi. Which you choose is a matter of taste. Positano is more luxurious and upscale, Amalfi more of a real Italian town. If you're going to Salerno from the AC, Amalfi is closer to Salerno.
