Planning a Vacation in Scandinavia

Hello, I'm from Bangkok and planning for a 3 week vacation in Scandinavia but have so little idea as to what Scandinevia would be like. I am 34 and would probably be traveling with 3 seniors, mom, dad and aunt.

Could anyone please give recommendations on the followings:

1. What is the better means of transporation : car or train?

2. How's the driving in Scandinavia?

3. Is it possible to visit Norway, Sweden, Finland altogether in the 3 week time?

4. I plan to go at the end of Spring/early summer; would it still be very cold?

5. I dont speak Finnish/Swedish/Norwegian; would it be a problem?

6. Could you recommend me some websites for more information?

Thank you

Nukeng

1.Car or train - depends on where you decide to go. For 4 people - car may be better.

2. Driving. It's not too scary. (I've only seen Sweden and Norway). Petrol is very expensive though. They drive on the right hand side of the road.

3. N/S/F - in 3 weeks? Possible - it depends on what you want to see and how fond you are of sitting in a car all day.

4. It'll be cold but not intlerable - although it might seem that way to someone fron Bangkok.

5. English is very widely spoken - only with elderly people did I experience any problems.

6. Sorry - I don't have any website recommendations.

Great area, though

1. Depends on your itinerary. For some relations I would also check budget airlines, and ferries (e.g. Stockholm-Helsinki). Sometimes a mix of different means of transportation can be wiser than driving Stockholm-Helsinki-Kiruna-Bergen-Oslo-Stockholm all with a car.

2. Easy. Especially outside of that handful of major cities.

3. Is it possible to visit Canada in 3 weeks? Probably. But it may make sense to narrow it down to regions in Scandinavia which you want to see: Stockholm and Archipielago, Smaland, Skane, Helsinki and the "10000 lakes", Bergen and fjords. Google "Norway in a nutshell" which is a travel package for exploring the famous cross-mountain railway, the mountains, and fjords in the Bergen area. Especially for people with little time.

4. According to my calendar, end of Spring/ early Summer means end of June. Best time of the year. Warm, sunny, endless days. Also high season for tourism. Advance reservation may be advised if you plan to stay at a specific hotel or location.

5. No.

6. I would start with the regular tourist authorities' websites to get a better understanding of the huge landmass and the different regions you can explore.
visitnorway.com
visitsweden.com
stockholmtown.com
Sorry, I don't know much about Finland.

<<<Helsinki and the "10000 lakes",<<<

It is actually 180000 lakes. Nukeng, you are talking about a big area, and I think you all would enjoy more if you limit it.

I met a lady in Thailand who had made a Scandinavia trip, and her highlight was the ferry trip between Sweden and Finland. And the endless daylight in June. This is the Finnish tourism bioard website: http://www.visitfinland.com/W5/index...ages)/USA_Home

car for freedom, possiby rentals combined with train or long-distance bus
not so much traffic as youre used to
possible but rushed
means may/june, not cold, but rain or sunshine, you never can tell, midnight sun in the north
no language problems

Hi! If you want to experience Scandinavia, 3 weeks may be to short to visit all of the countries and their special places. Train would probably be the best way to go, considering your group. The weather can be cold in the spring, but it depends.. It may also be very hot! You should bring both warm and light clothes. The language is not a problem, all scandinavians speek english in some way.
