One place in Portugal that I don't feel gets enough mention is Obidos. It's about a 40 min. drive from Lisbon and there is a gorgeous midieval castle there.

Inside the castle is a village with apartments, b&b's, shops, churches, and cafes. Some of the cafes are actually remodled old servant quarters.

At night, the castle is lit up by indirect lighting and it's a spectacular sight from the highway as you approach the town.

I'm sure if you do a web search on "Obidos" you'll find pictures and more.

Enjoy your trip!

hi jenny,
we have planned a trip to spain and portugal in sept also, and i am happy to share our itinerary with you. for recommendations, i spoke to several people who had been there and chose this schedule:
we fly in to barcelona, spend 3 nights there, then fly to madrid for another 3 nights. (day trips to segovia and toledo) from there we go by train to seville (2 nights)and by car to granada. then we plan to drive to lisbon which is where we eventually fly out of. we will be gone 14 days. hope this helps!

We went to portugal on our honeymoon in early october - weather was perfect ! - Also enjoyed visiting Obidos, MUST go to the Algarve - southern coast of portugal -- we stayed in Prai de Rocha - was a bit too quiet -- Albufiera was a little more lively -- (but we were on our honeymoon- so who cared?!?!) -- also spent some time in the portugal Pousadas - a MUST DO ! we stayed in a castle turned hotel in Setubal -- city itself was nothing exciting - but the setting and the accomodations were breaththaking - overlooking some body of water that I can no longer remember the name of - but it was beautiful -- unfortuantely, I cannot remember the name of the place - but my husband and i think it was the Pousada San Phillipe--check it out. We stayed there our last night before flying home from lisbon.
