Planning a Trip to Iceland
We are interested in visiting Iceland this summer for 7 days or so. We'd like to fly from EWR on Iceland Air. We would like to go to Reykjavik and the Arctic Circle area (Grimsey Island and/or Akureyri). We welcome any suggestions.
Can you reoommend an agent for this?
Thank you very much in advance for your advice.

Sorry, I cannot recommend any agent, as we went there on our own, however this blog can offer a lot of useful information about sights, places, tips etc. - www.iceland24blog.com

Rent a car and just do a self drive trip-you will enjoy it immensely! Be prepared to spend alot of money on food and drink.
Stock up on any wines or spirits before you leave the airport at the dutyfree store as the prices will shock you. $78USD for Bombay Gin at the grocery store;ham and cheese sandwiches for $15USD at an inexpensive restaurant;$32USD for fish and ships, etc.
Personally, the southwest region of Iceland is stunning with volcanoes, waterfalls and gorgeous ocean vistas. I would also recommend taking the ferry to the Westman Islands too!

The ferry to the Westman Islands goes from Landeyahöfn, which is about a 90 min drive from Reykjavik. It sometimes goes from Þorlokshöfn which is closer to Reykjavik, but takes longer to sail to the Islands.
You could do a day trip to the Westman Islands from Reykjavik, leaving a few days to travel to the North. Whilst Akureyri is nice, and I am sure Grimsey is (never been there) there are lots of other fascinating sites to visit in the North, particularly around Lake Myvatn. 7 days is not that long, so choose your destinations wisely. Also, be aware that driving takes longer than you might anticipate.
I would definitely hire a car and plan a self drive tour. A car hire firm I can highly recommend is Cars Iceland www.carsiceland.com . As well as advising you on the most suitable vehicle they can also help you with your itinerary.
