Planning a Trip in Scandinavia

Hey, everyone!

So, my family (mom, dad, brother) and I, are planning to visit Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark this April (2016). Since my dad is really busy, we can give the trip about 20 days at most - so how would you suggest we plan it? We're all really outdoorsy and we love being active.

It would be really helpful if you could advise me along these pointers:

1. How many days in each country - and where in those countries?
2. Fun things to do there (local stuff)
3. I'm really interested in viewing the Northern Lights... How would you suggest I do it?

If there's anything else that I've forgotten, please do add it in your reply. Your help means a lot to me.

Thanks in advance!

So 4 people. April while it is still not warm. I might limit myself down from needing to visit all four and also if you want to include the artic circle.

You like the outdoors, it might be a little early for log rafting http://www.vildmark.se/en/guide/ but it would get you out and about. I think you might be late for the cross country skiing but that would be possible north of the artic circle so have a look at Yllas

While a lot of Sweden and Finland as you come south is basically lake/tree/rock you will find the southern area worth a good wander and look out for local sauna.

Norway offers you the Fjords, certainly a good jomp over Hardanger Fjell is worth a day or twos walking and while Norway falls into the crazy prices you will find hutte worth staying in.

Oslo and Bergen are worth a day as are the capitals of Sweden and Denmark.

Coppenhagen, have a look at my thread

Arhus, as the second city of Denmark is interesting but mainly for its closeness to the various bog-men, humans who died and were preserved in a bog. I'll leave it to you....

Are you going by train or rail or hiking or biking - mode of transport helps folks recommend stuff.

April is too late for Northern Lights - if you are up in the North where the lights are common, around Tromsø, then by April it's not really getting dark enough at night for you to see the lights.
April is still very much winter in Norway, with snow on the ground at higher elevations, the famous hikes are off-limits as covered in snow and several tourist road still closed for winter.
