Planning a Macedonia trip

Hi all,
I m planning a trip to Macedonia next year, primarily Ohrid, as I find the Ohrid lake irresistible.
What are some other places i can add to my itinerary? I would have about 7 to 10 days at hand.

hiya,

with 7 days split your time between Skopje and Ohrid. You can do daytrips from Skopje to Lake (Canyon) Matka, Vodno Mountain and the nearby monastaries. In Ohrid activities are endless.
You could also add a day in Bitola it has the prettiest pedestrian street in the country and beyond, lots of old architecture and interesting arheological sites.

with 10 days you can add another stop in lets say Prilep (as a base for exploring Krushevo, Marko's Towers, the villages of Mariovo...)

if youre into wine tasting: Negotino and Kavadarci are the places.

I'm really surprised that Macedonia doesn't get more coverage on this forum.
Me and the cook are on our 2nd full day in Skopje, and loving it. The city centre is beautiful, the Old Town and Old Bazaar are dripping with atmosphere, there are museums galore, pavement cafe culture is the order of the day, food and drink are inexpensive and quality, public transport is cheap and abundant, and the people are friendly and welcoming. Oh, and Mother Theresa was born here. Temperature is teetering on 80f, and very pleasant well into the night.

This morning we had a trip out of town by public bus to Tetovo, a ticket for the 60 minute bus ride cost less than 2.

On Friday we're getting a bus to Ohrid for a week by the Lake. After that we're off to Bitola, which comes across as another quality spot. It's also the bithplace of Mustafa Kamel [Ataturk].

Loving it.

We'll get the public bus [No.60] from Skopje to Lake Matka on our final full day [8 May]

Took the bus from Skopje to Lake Ohrid today. Took 3.5 hours @ 450 den single [8, 7]. Pretty journey rather than spectacular.

Got met by our hosts [freebie] in Ohrid at the bus station. Our apartment [Bojadzi] is perfect. It's on Booking.com, and is grossly underpriced.

Really looking forward to our week here, before moving on to Bitola.
